The Council of Nicaea's Impact on Christianity

The entire history of Christianity actually hinges on a massive argument over one single

Greek word. Back in 325 AD, the Church was in a total crisis because a guy named Arius

started saying Jesus was just a created being, basically a junior god.

Three hundred bishops met at the Council of Nicaea and absolutely shut that down. They declared Jesus

is homoousios, meaning of the exact same substance as the Father. This decision is

why the New Testament confirms Jesus is fully God and fully man, and why Mary is

the Mother of God. Without that one meeting, the faith you know today wouldn't exist.
