The Day His Blame Failed

When I was twenty, I worked an office job under a manager who took credit for everything I

did. If a report went well, it was his idea. If something went

wrong, it was suddenly my mistake. I kept my head down because I needed

the job. One night, he asked me to finish a presentation for a client pitch the

next morning. I did it, saved it, and emailed him the final version

like always. The next day, he stood in front of the room, confident and smug,

and opened the file. It was an old draft he had pulled from his own folder. Numbers wrong.

Slides missing. The client noticed immediately. He tried to blame me.
