The Deepfake Refund Scandal

Scammers in China are using AI to fake product damage and steal refunds from online

sellers. These groups, known as Sheep Shearers, exploit refund only

policies by generating deepfake evidence of goods. They turn fresh fruit into moldy

produce or add synthetic cracks to ceramics with just a click. One scammer was

caught after sending a video of a crab with nine legs instead of eight.

Merchants are now using AI chatbots to detect these frauds, but the tech
