The Roman Republic didn't die of old age, it was murdered by three dudes with

massive egos. It started with Sulla, who literally posted hit lists called

proscriptions to legally hunt down his enemies and steal their money. Then Julius Caesar

escalated the drama by crossing the Rubicon and declaring war on his own government just to become Dictator

for Life. After the Senate stabbed him, his nephew Augustus played the ultimate

long game. He defeated Mark Antony, rebranded the monarchy as the Pax Romana,

and gaslit the entire empire into thinking he was just a humble public servant while holding absolute

power.
