Did you know that octopuses have three hearts? Two of them pump blood to the gills,
while the third pumps it to the rest of the body. And here’s the strange part:
When an octopus swims, its main heart stops beating. That’s why octopuses
prefer crawling instead of swimming — it literally exhausts them. Octopuses also have
blue blood, because it’s based on copper instead of iron. This helps them
survive in cold, deep oceans. Even crazier: About two-thirds of an octopus’s
neurons are located in its arms. That means each arm can think and react on its own.
The ocean is smarter than we think.
