The world's first global apocalypse happened around 1177 B.C. In just a few decades,
mighty civilizations like the Hittites and Mycenaean Greeks completely vanished. Major cities were
burned to the ground, trade networks collapsed, and writing was forgotten in some regions.
Egyptian records blame mysterious invaders they called the "Sea Peoples," showing them in
epic battles. But new evidence also points to a perfect storm of mega-droughts and
a series of massive earthquakes. It was a total system collapse that plunged the world into a
dark age, and we're still not entirely sure what caused it.
