“The Dual-Turret Tank That Couldn’t Aim Right” > In the early days of World War 2,
France built a tank with twice the firepower… The Char B1. It had two main guns: a hull-mounted
75 millimetre cannon, and a turret-mounted 47 millimetre. On paper? Devastating.
But there was a catch… The guns couldn’t aim together. The 75 millimetre
gun was fixed in the hull — it could only be aimed by steering the entire tank.
The commander had to load, aim, and fire the turret gun… all by himself.
It was overcomplicated, slow, and awkward in battle. Against faster, more modern German
tanks — it didn’t stand a chance. The Char B1 was powerful… But poorly designed.
