Formula 1 drivers once said THIS thing was useless… now it’s impossible to race without
it. This is the Halo — a titanium safety shield introduced in 2018 by the FIA
to protect a driver’s head at 300 km/h. Fans hated it. Drivers mocked it. They said it ruined
F1’s look forever. Then came Bahrain 2020… At 220 km/h, Romain Grosjean
crashed into a steel barrier. The car split in half. Fire everywhere.
Here’s the key moment — the Halo hit the barrier FIRST, split the metal,
created a survival gap, and stopped the barrier from striking his head.
That single piece of titanium gave Grosjean the space to escape the fire alive.
