The Importance of Control Groups in Medicine

For thousands of years, doctors thought draining your blood was a cure-all.

You'd get sick, they'd drain your blood, and if you survived, you'd think it worked.

But you probably would have survived anyway. This is why we need experiments.

Scientists randomly split people into two groups. One group gets the real treatment,

and the other gets a fake one or nothing at all. This is the "control group."

By comparing the outcomes, we can see if the treatment actually works or if people

are just getting better on their own. It's the only real way to separate

a cure from a coincidence.
