Atoms are literally falling apart all around you right now. It’s called radioactivity.
Some atoms are just unstable, and they deal with it by shooting out tiny particles.
Sometimes they spit out a chunk of themselves, called alpha radiation, turning into a completely new element.
Other times, a neutron inside flips into a proton and fires out an electron—that's
beta radiation. And then there's gamma, which is just a pure blast of energy.
The legendary Marie Curie discovered this, figuring out that elements like radium
are naturally radioactive. The universe is constantly transforming, one invisible atom at a time.
