The Jar of Gold and Honesty

Long ago, a man bought a piece of land from another man. One day,

while working the land, he uncovered a jar buried beneath the soil — filled with

gold. The buyer went to the seller and said, “Take your gold. I only bought the

land, not what was hidden inside it.” But the seller replied, “I sold you the

land with everything in it. The gold is yours.” Neither man would accept the treasure.

So they went together to a wise man and told him what had happened. He asked them,

“Do you have children?” One said, “I have a son.” The other said, “I have a daughter.”

The wise man smiled and said, “Marry the girl to the boy. Spend the gold on
