He wasn’t a soldier — but he died on the battlefield. In 1954,
photojournalist Robert Capa was covering the First Indochina War. He’d already survived
the Spanish Civil War and World War II — his camera capturing some of the most
iconic war photos ever taken. That day, Capa left his jeep to get closer to
the action. He walked down a dirt road, camera in hand, and stepped on a
landmine. His camera was found beside him — the film still inside. The last photo he
ever took showed soldiers walking toward danger… seconds before he met his own.
