The Miracle at Cana: Water to Wine

The first recorded miracle in the Bible performed by Jesus is the turning of water into wine

at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, as described in John 2:1–11. During the celebration,

the hosts ran out of wine—a major social embarrassment in that culture. Jesus’ mother,

Mary, brought the situation to His attention, though He initially replied that His

“hour had not yet come.” Nevertheless, at her instruction, the servants filled six large stone

jars with water. When they drew some out and took it to the master of the banquet,

the water had miraculously become high-quality wine. This miracle holds deep symbolic meaning.

It marks the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry, revealing His divine power and compassion
