We know more about outer space than our own oceans. Eighty percent of the ocean remains
completely unexplored and unmapped. Every time scientists venture into the deep sea,
they discover species that have never been seen before. The ocean produces over half of the
oxygen we breathe through microscopic organisms called phytoplankton. These tiny plants
are smaller than a grain of sand but keep our entire planet alive. The Pacific Ocean
alone covers sixty three million square miles. Scientists have identified two hundred
thirty thousand marine species, but millions more are waiting to be discovered.
The blue whale, the largest animal ever to exist, weighs two hundred tons and survives
