The Origin of "Soccer" in America

Ever wonder why Americans call the world's most-loved sport "soccer"? It's because back

in 1863, London's Football Association set the official rules for this game we

all adore. Meanwhile, British college students came up with a catchy slang,

shortening "association" to "soccer." Across the ocean, the U.S. had already embraced

American football, and calling the globally popular sport "soccer" just made sense.
