Living forever would actually be a total nightmare. Philosophers call this the Immortality
Dilemma. Basically, if you never died, you would eventually run out of goals
and get so bored that you’d lose your entire personality. But on the flip side,
death is only bad because of FOMO. It’s called the Deprivation Account. You don’t feel pain
when you’re dead, you just miss out on the good stuff you could have had. So we are stuck
in this weird middle ground. We’re terrified of missing out, but eternity would
ruin us. Turns out, the fact that your life has a deadline is the only thing
that makes it matter.
