The entire modern world runs on a tiny three-legged sandwich called the Bipolar Junction
Transistor. This little chip is the absolute MVP of electronics because it does
two massive things. First, it acts like a digital valve. You feed a tiny,
weak signal into the Base, and the transistor amplifies it, letting a huge rush
of power flow from the Emitter to the Collector. That is how we turn whispers into stadium
sound. Second, it acts as a high-speed switch for binary code.
Without this 1947 invention replacing massive vacuum tubes, your smartphone would be the size
of a building.
