Your weekend off wasn't a gift; it was won through struggle. Seriously,

that Saturday you love is the result of long, hard fights by workers' movements.

The same goes for the 8-hour workday and the right to equal pay. We take so much

for granted. Think about voting. It wasn't always a given. People,

especially women called suffragettes, fought and were violently opposed just for the right

to have a say. From environmental activists hugging trees in the Chipko movement to Dalits

fighting for basic human dignity, social movements have shaped everything. They prove that

collective action can change the world.
