Nokia didn't fail because they missed smartphones. That's the story everyone tells,
but it's completely wrong. In 2007, Nokia actually had a touchscreen prototype
ready before the iPhone launched. Engineers saw the future. The problem was
human. Leadership was split between Finland and Germany, and they couldn't
agree on anything. While Apple moved fast, Nokia's teams spent months in meetings
debating. Innovations collected dust while executives argued. By the time they acted,
they'd lost three years. Organizational dysfunction kills even the most innovative companies.
Nokia had the talent, but they couldn't make decisions fast enough to survive.
