Your brain is actively lying to you about what makes you happy and who you love. It’s called the
durability bias, and it means you overestimate how long you’ll feel sad after a breakup
or happy after a raise. Speaking of love, you can actually trick someone into
liking you by taking them on a scary date. The bridge study proved that we confuse
adrenaline from fear with sexual attraction. And if you ever need help in a crowd,
point at one specific person. Otherwise, the bystander effect kicks in and everyone
just assumes someone else will save you. We are basically just biological robots running on
glitchy software.
