Why does shampoo make tons of foam and does more foam mean cleaner hair?
Foam happens because shampoos contain surfactants, molecules that reduce water’s surface tension. When surface tension
drops, it’s easier to trap air and form bubbles while you rub.
Surfactants also help lift oils and dirt by surrounding them in tiny clusters.
But here’s the twist: lots of foam doesn’t automatically mean better cleaning.
In hard water, foam can drop because minerals interfere, yet the shampoo can still work.
