“One of the most misunderstood aspects of old-school training is how they combined volume and intensity.
Today, you’ll hear debates everywhere: high volume vs. low volume, high intensity vs.
moderate effort. But the legends had a brutal, simple method — they did both.
Arnold trained with high volume — sometimes 20 sets per body part — but he pushed those sets with
insane intensity, chasing the pump until his muscles were screaming. Reg Park leaned
more toward heavy, low-rep strength work, but even then, his sessions were
long, demanding, and full of effort most lifters today would never endure.
