The Valley Without Footprints

In central Afghanistan, there is a valley locals refuse to cross after sunset. They call it “The

Valley Without Footprints.” In 1987, during the Soviet–Afghan War, a Soviet supply

escort entered this valley just before nightfall. The route was supposed to be safe.

Clear skies. No enemy reports. As the convoy moved in, snow began to fall

lightly. The engines echoed between the cliffs. Then something strange happened.

The lead vehicle stopped. The driver pointed ahead — the snow on the

ground showed no footprints… no tracks… nothing. Moments later, the radio crackled.

Static. Then silence. From the ridges above, faint metallic clicks
