A coffee mug is just a donut. In the world of topology, they are considered
the same object. This field of math ignores straight lines and rigid angles,
focusing only on properties that don't change when you stretch, twist,
or bend a shape. Think of it like digital clay. You can smoothly morph a donut into
a coffee mug because they both have exactly one hole. The hole in the donut becomes the
hole in the handle. You can't do this with a ball, which has zero holes. This is called a
homeomorphism. So, from a topologist's perspective, you're drinking
from a donut every morning.
