Two Halves of the Same Song

Nothing destroys a childhood faster than a parent chasing the American Dream through their kid.

Jing-mei’s mom lost everything in China and decided her daughter had to be a genius to make

up for it. She forced Jing-mei into piano lessons, but Jing-mei rebelled, faking her way through

classes with a deaf teacher just to spite her. It ended in a brutal screaming match

where she told her mom she wished she was dead. Years later, looking at her old

sheet music, she saw the song Pleading Child was followed by Perfectly Contented.

She finally realized they were two halves of the same song, just like her life.
