A 51% attack occurs when someone gains more than half of a blockchain network’s total mining power.
With that majority control, they could: Dominate block mining and earn most rewards
Reverse recent transactions Block new transactions from being confirmed This attack is considered theoretical for
major blockchains like Bitcoin, because achieving 51% of the network’s mining power is
extremely expensive and difficult. Even with majority control, an attacker could
only reverse recent transactions, not the entire blockchain’s history.
