Understanding Design Management Practices

Introduction Designers in the professional arena of visual communication are required to

have a thorough understanding of industry processes and requirements. The ability to interact

with clients and other role-players within a highly competitive industry is key for a successful

career. The aim of this module is to cultivate a realistic expectation of industry practices

and processes and students are to engage with a variety of aspects prevalent in the design industry

that include operating as a freelancer, starting a SME, contractual negotiation, best practice and

ethical considerations. This module is presented through a series of theoretical lectures with some practical

application. In certain cases, sections in the prescribed book is replaced with
