I woke up to the sound, of boots on someone's door.

Another family trembling, wondering what it's all for. Children crying, shadows falling,

hearts pushed to the edge. Tell me when we started living with compassion off

the ledge. This ain't the land my father told me, I'd be proud

to stand. Where neighbors helped each other, didn't turn their backs and ran.

But somewhere down the line, we lost the truth we once held strong.

Somewhere our compass shattered and we can't tell right from wrong.
