When Ego Overrides Judgment

I stole a patient's chart to prove my attending was wrong and it backfired spectacularly.

Night shift in the ICU, I noticed his orders didn't match the labs.

Everyone worshipped him, called him a genius. But those numbers screamed sepsis

and he was treating pneumonia. I photographed everything, ready to escalate. Then he pulled me

aside, showed me the previous hospital's records I hadn't seen. Turned out the patient

had a rare condition that mimicked sepsis. He knew I took the chart. Instead of reporting

me, he said sometimes the bravest thing isn't proving you're right,

it's admitting you might be wrong. I almost destroyed a career over my ego.
