Whisper Pines. They say the wind there can mimic human voices. We didn’t believe

it. Until my friend Emily said, “Guys, stop messing around.”

The problem? It wasn’t Emily’s voice. It was mine. Perfect pitch.

Perfect tone. Then I spoke— and heard Emily’s voice come out of my mouth.

We panicked. Voices swapped randomly every time the wind blew. At one point,

I heard a voice call my name from deep in the woods. But the voice was my mother’s.

She wasn’t on the trip. None of us went toward it— except for one kid.
