This island is bigger than you think. And powerful nations have wanted it
for centuries. Greenland was settled by Norse explorers over one thousand years ago.
It became part of the Danish kingdom through colonial rule. During World War
Two, Denmark fell. The U.S. moved in to protect Greenland.
Greenland became a key military outpost. In nineteen forty-six, the United States tried to buy
it. Denmark said no. Today, Greenland governs itself but remains part
of Denmark. Its future is strategic. Greenland isn't just ice.
