Ever looked up and wondered why is the sky blue and not, say,
green or purple? Sunlight may look white, but it’s actually made of all
the colors of the rainbow mixed together. When sunlight enters Earth’s atmosphere,
it hits tiny air molecules. Blue light has shorter waves meaning it bounces around
more when it hits air particles. So as you look up, all those scattered
blue rays come from every direction painting the sky its signature color. At sunset,
light travels farther through the air, scattering blue away and letting warm colors like orange
