You Weren’t Supposed to Look

“Something Was Breathing Under My Bed” I always sleep with the lights off. Complete darkness.

No night lamp. No TV glow. Last night, around 2:43 a.m., I woke up because

I felt… watched. Not the normal kind of fear. The kind where your body knows something

is wrong before your brain catches up. I didn’t move. I didn’t breathe.

Then I heard it. A slow, wet breathing sound. Not near the door. Not by the window.

It was coming from under my bed. I told myself it was my imagination. Maybe the pipes.

Maybe my own breathing echoing. But then the breathing stopped… And something whispered

my name. Right next to my ear. I sat up instantly and turned on my
