A Gift for Luna

Snow lay deeper along the path as the mice walked. Breath puffed gently from Milo's nose

in small clouds. Minnie checked the map and glanced toward a leaning tree.

Under that tree, a thin, gray squirrel crouched alone named Luna. Luna stared at an

empty shell. She was hungry. Cold wind brushed Luna's fur and made her shiver.

Milo stepped closer and set the pouch gently down. Minnie spoke softly, promising they would

not leave her hungry. Milo and Minnie agreed one of them should stay nearby with Luna.
