Art has always been propaganda. The ancient Greeks were obsessed with perfect,
logical bodies. Then the Romans copied them but used art to scream, "We're in charge!"
with giant emperor statues. Fast forward to the Renaissance, where artists became
celebrities, mastering realism and perspective to celebrate human genius.
But then things got dramatic. The Baroque period was all about intense shadows and over-the-top
emotion, designed to make you feel something powerful. Finally,
the super-rich got bored and wanted playful, fluffy art, giving us the light
