Australia was legally considered "nobody's land" until 1992. Let's rewind. In the early 1900s,
Australia was a loyal British dominion, fighting in World War I "to the last man."
After World War II, we shifted our alliance to the USA. But then,
the 60s and 70s exploded. The Freedom Rides exposed deep-seated racism,
and massive protests erupted against the Vietnam War. People demanded change.
Slowly, it happened. The White Australia Policy was dismantled. Aboriginal people
finally got the right to vote. Then, in 1992, the Mabo decision
overturned *terra nullius*, recognizing Indigenous land rights and forcing Australia
