Betrayal at the Work Party

My sister stole my boyfriend at a work party. And everyone keeps asking why I won’t

forgive her. She didn’t trip and fall into him. She planned it. She’d always done

that thing where she borrowed parts of my life. My clothes. My friends.

My jokes. She called it admiration. I called it a warning. At the party, she stayed glued

to his side. Laughing too loud. Touching his arm. Telling stories that weren’t hers

to tell. I watched her introduce herself to his coworkers as if she belonged there.

As if I was the plus one. When I pulled him aside, he said I was imagining

things. You’re being dramatic. She’s just friendly. An hour later, they disappeared.
