Blue Blood: Squid's Unique Adaptation

Did you know squids actually have blue blood flowing through their bodies. This happens because

their blood contains hemocyanin instead of hemoglobin like humans have. Hemocyanin uses

copper to carry oxygen, and when copper binds with oxygen it turns blue.

This adaptation helps squids survive in cold ocean waters where oxygen levels are low.

The copper-based blood is actually more efficient at transporting oxygen in freezing temperatures.

So next time you see a squid, remember there's literal blue blood pumping through

those tentacles keeping them alive in the deep ocean.
