Peace treaties in Burma were actually a weaponized business strategy called Ceasefire Capitalism.
The military government realized they couldn't defeat ethnic rebels in the mountains with guns,
so they switched to contracts. After signing ceasefires, the regime handed over massive chunks
of land to Chinese investors for logging and rubber plantations. This wasn't just about money.
By clear-cutting the forests, they destroyed the physical cover rebels used to hide in
and forced local villagers off their ancestral land. They literally bulldozed their enemies under
the guise of development, proving that in modern warfare, a land concession is sometimes more
lethal than a bullet.
