We are building giant concrete walls to fight the ocean, and it might be a losing battle.
When coastlines erode, we have two choices. Hard engineering means building massive
sea walls and groynes. They're strong, but they're incredibly expensive and can ruin the natural
look of a beach. The other option is soft engineering. This is where we use nature's own
tricks, like adding sand back to beaches and stabilizing dunes.
It looks way more natural and can even create habitats for wildlife. But here's the catch:
it's an expensive, temporary fix. So which is better?
