Coral reefs are basically underwater apartment complexes where tiny animals called polyps live
with algae roommates. These algae are the ultimate meal prep partners, photosynthesizing
and giving corals up to 95% of their food. But when ocean temps spike just half
a degree above normal, corals evict their algae in panic mode. Without their food source,
corals turn ghostly white and can die within weeks. This breakup is called coral bleaching.
Think of it like your phone overheating and shutting down all apps to survive. The Great Barrier
Reef lost half its coral in 27 years. These reefs support 500 million people and generate 24
billion euros yearly, yet we're watching them disappear.
