A single typo in your genetic code can actually kill you. In Sickle Cell Anemia,
just one letter change in your DNA turns your round, healthy blood cells into sharp,
sticky sickles that clog your veins. It is a coding error with massive consequences. But scientists have
figured out how to use molecular scissors called CRISPR to hack the system.
Instead of just fixing the typo, they are deleting a specific switch to turn your fetal
hemoglobin back on. Basically, they are tricking your body into using
its backup generator from when you were a baby to cure a lifelong disease.
