called the Great Compression. Wall Street and Main Street actually worked together.
Unions were strong, and companies prioritized long-term stability over quick cash. Then the seventies
hit and we pivoted to shareholder primacy. Suddenly, the only thing that mattered was the
stock price. We traded guaranteed pensions for risky 401ks and turned housing into a gambling
asset. We went from an economy that built things to an economy that just moves
money around, leaving you to foot the bill.
