Thirty-two seconds on the clock, and one play defined a champion's entire life.
This is Neil Harris. In the 1983 Big Eight championship, he was just a backup cornerback.
Growing up poor, his main goal was to get his family to a better life, seeing football
as his ticket. At Nebraska, he barely saw the field for two years but never stopped
grinding, saying, “You grab life by the horns.” Then, in the biggest game,
with everything on the line, he got his chance. He knocked down two passes in the
final seconds, securing a perfect season. He came from nothing and proved the only
way to go is up.
