People literally hugged trees to stop them from being cut down. This was the Chipko
movement in India back in 1973, where women led the charge to protect forests in the Himalayas.
This spirit of activism didn't stop there. Another movement, Appiko, followed suit,
all to save trees. Fast forward to today, and you see activists like Greta Thunberg
protesting outside parliaments, demanding action on a global scale. It's not just people
on the streets. Governments have been making laws for decades, and world leaders
gather to sign massive agreements. The fight for our planet has a long history.
