A district in Bangladesh is named after a man who told everyone to stop paying taxes. Back in the 1800s,
Haji Shariatullah saw farmers struggling under British-created landlords. So he started the
Faraizi Movement. He declared British India an enemy state and told his followers that the landlords
had no right to their crops. He instructed them not to pay the unfair taxes.
This powerful movement for justice spread across Bengal, uniting people against oppression.
His legacy was so huge, they named a whole district, Shariatpur,
after him, a permanent reminder of his fight for the people.
