Heat waves are actually acting like a fertility drug for crickets. Scientists recently tested how female
crickets handle extreme temperatures, expecting the heat to mess up their reproduction.
But they found the exact opposite. When exposed to simulated heat waves, these crickets didn't
just survive; they went into reproductive overdrive. They grew larger ovaries and laid
significantly more eggs compared to crickets in normal weather. Nothing about how
they laid the eggs changed, just the sheer volume. It seems that while we are all miserable
in the heat, some animals are using that short-term spike to multiply faster than ever.
