R2P: Saving Lives, Shattering States

Your government forfeits its right to rule the second it starts killing its own citizens.

This is the explosive logic behind R2P, or the Responsibility to Protect, which totally rewrote

the rules of global politics. For years, sovereignty was a shield that let

dictators do whatever they wanted inside their borders. But after the horrors of Rwanda,

the UN decided that sovereignty is actually a duty, not a free pass. We saw this play

out in Libya when NATO stepped in to stop Gaddafi from cleansing Benghazi. They saved lives,

but the aftermath was total chaos and state collapse. It forces us to ask if saving the

people is worth destroying the country.
