You can actually use a chessboard to solve your messiest scheduling nightmares. It’s called Rook
Polynomials and it is a total cheat code for combinatorics. Imagine you are assigning jobs but
certain people are totally banned from specific tasks. Instead of crying over a spreadsheet,
you map the forbidden spots onto a grid. You place rooks on the bad squares so they don't attack
each other. This creates a polynomial equation that spits out the exact number of valid arrangements.
