Saving the Wild Bactrian Camel

This camel drinks water so salty that no other mammal can survive it. It’s the wild Bactrian

camel, the world’s only truly wild camel, toughing it out in the Gobi Desert.

But this incredible species is critically endangered, with fewer than 1,000 left in the

wild. They're threatened by illegal hunting and mining that destroys their home.

Plus, they’re mixing with domestic camels, which dilutes their unique genes.

Scientists know they are a distinct species on the brink. By protecting desert reserves and supporting

breeding centers, we can keep this ultimate survivor from disappearing forever.
